Crafting The Perfect Sunday Routine

Your Sunday Routine can be the key to a calm and productive week. It can allow you to feel relaxed, and ready!

Sunday Scaries, Sunday Blues, whatever you call them, are a real thing! I used to absolutely HATE Sundays, especially, when I worked in an office!

Why?

It mostly had to do with my job and the environment. Every week, I dreaded Mondays the most. Waking up to go into the office, making small talk, rushing to get things done, especially those tasks that I didn’t think added any value.

So I found small ways that made it all bearable. I tried to create a structure for the week, and even on the weekends.

I started to notice, that I enjoyed the structure of my Sunday routine.

It gave me a sense of calm before the storm of the week to come. I usually felt that the beginning of the week was a lot smoother than when it would be without my Sunday routine.

Why you need a Sunday Routine?

Your Sunday Routine doesn’t have to be complicated. It can allow you to feel relaxed, and ready. Having a Sunday routine has been the key for me to stay organized and prepared for the week ahead!

Tips to create a Perfect Sunday Routine

Reflect

Sundays, for me, feel like the end of a week, a time to just enjoy whatever I can, like a little wrap up for the week.

I love to use Sundays as a way to look back at what went well and what didn’t. Setting this time aside, also allows me time to reflect and journal about whatever is on my mind.

Review

After I journal, I take a look at my to-do lists for work and home, especially the things that fell off my plate.

Do they still need to be done? Or are they just unnecessary?

Brain Dump

Once I have the tasks that are an overflow from last week. I sit down with a blank page in my notebook. I write down everything that I think needs to get done this week.

For me personally, I like to do a brain dump of all the things I want to get done in the upcoming week.

After I write the list, I like to highlight and color code things that fall in different categories or compartments of my life.

I also like to think of different parts of my life as compartments – so right now, that looks like this:

  • Home – things around the house, finances, and meals
  • Work – anything related to work and blogging
  • Myself – time for self-care, working on skills, etc.

Prioritize

The Brain Dump exercise allows me to mentally prioritize my week.

It allows me to think about how many things I can realistically get done in a given week, and which ones need to be deferred or fall off the list.

I like to consider which tasks are urgent, which ones are going to add value, and what can wait?

Schedule

If there are things that need to be done on a particular date, like a meeting, a follow-up, etc. I make sure it’s scheduled in my calendar. That way I make time for it!

The rest of the tasks get scheduled pockets of time I dedicate to admin work throughout the week! For me, usually those days fall on Mondays or Fridays.

5 minute tasks

If there are any tasks on the list that are going to take only a few minutes, I just try to power through them, so that I don’t need to worry about them in the next week. Usually, these are the tasks I’m putting off but realistically will only take a few minutes.

Relax

After all the tasks have been scheduled and dealt with, I like to take some time to relax. I usually like to either read a good book or watching TV in bed. Sometimes, I’ll even put on a face mask or do my nails!
